Scam Artists Preying On Elderly Again

MADERA COUNTY – Sheriff John Anderson is again warning residents about a recent spurt of telephone scams targeting the elderly. In one case, a mountain resident received over 40 calls in a 2-day period from the same telephone number: 876-587-7904, says the Sheriff’s Office. They warn that area code 876 is the local telephone area code of Jamaica.

Pickup Takes Out Power Poles On Road 628

AHWAHNEE – A truck crashing into a power pole on Road 628 this morning took out two power poles and closed the road for several hours. At 10:35 a.m., reports began coming in of live power lines in the roadway, and a 2001 gold Toyota Tundra smashed into a power pole just north of Highway 49 on Road 628.
