A Message from Mariposa County Sheriff Doug Binnewies –
I will run for re-election as your Mariposa County Sheriff-Coroner in 2014 and request your continued support.
It is my total focus to ensure that Mariposa County receives the finest, most professional law enforcement services. The philosophy of total service continues to be successful in Mariposa County.
The Sheriff’s Office understands that successful policing is more than an agency policing a community, it’s a County working together to protect their future.
I am pleased to have accomplished several goals with the Office during my first term as Sheriff. A few of those accomplishments include maintaining successful law enforcement services through a lengthy recession, starting a Police K9 program and the introduction of the S.A.F.E. Unit targeting offenders who prey on children.
Drug abuse continues to be a significant problem in our communities. In fact drugs are the common catalyst to almost all serious crime in our County today. I will continue to combat this drug problem with the continued use of progressive techniques and utilizing available trainings and grants to enhance our Deputies’ investigation abilities, street interdiction and enforcement.
In addition to drug abuse, rural communities are facing numerous challenges as a result of California’s AB109 Law Enforcement Realignment of 2011. It takes an entire community of aware citizens to get in front of the crime trends that we are confronting at a higher frequency than ever.
To better equip our communities combat these trends, I plan to host community meetings throughout the County to boost awareness. I believe an educated community is a strong community and criminals don’t prey on the strong.
I’m pleased with the support and the positive feedback from the community applauding the hard work of the Sheriff’s Office. The employees that make the Sheriff’s Office what it is today dedicate so much to their work and community. I couldn’t be happier with their accomplishments.
I am also pleased to have earned the full endorsement of the Mariposa Deputy Sheriffs’ Association as well as the Mariposa Sheriffs’ Management Association for re-election of Sheriff. This is rewarding for me to have the support of the men and women of the Office that I lead. I am very proud of their support as I have much respect for their work in our communities.
The Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office will continue to find success with the right leadership and philosophy. I look forward and am excited to continue as your Sheriff serving the residents and visitors of Mariposa County. Thank you for your continued support.
