Pickup Takes Out Power Poles On Road 628

AHWAHNEE – A truck crashing into a power pole on Road 628 this morning took out two power poles and closed the road for several hours.

At 10:35 a.m., reports began coming in of live power lines in the roadway, and a 2001 gold Toyota Tundra smashed into a power pole just north of Highway 49 on Road 628.

Fire and ambulance responded, and those first on the scene requested CHP to close the road due to the danger posed by the live wires.

PG&E was notified that there was a transformer down, along with two damaged poles and 30 feet of power lines.

The driver of the pickup, who was a 49-year-old woman from Ahwahnee, suffered only minor injuries and was not transported for medical treatment.

Power was out to some homes in the area as repairs were made to the damaged equipment and poles were replaced.
