Catherine Ann McGoldrick

Catherine MGoldrickCatherine Ann McGoldrick better known as Cappy, of Oakhurst, Calif., passed peacefully on Monday morning Dec. 14, at home surrounded by family.

Cappy was born on May 5, 1933, in Providence RI. She entered the Sacred Heart Society of nuns when she was 23 years old. She had a Bachelors in English from Newton College which is now a part of Boston College, and a Masters in history from Manhattanville College in New York. She left the order in 1968 and married Bernard McGoldrick in 1969 in Washington, D.C.

That same year they came to California. In 1972 they moved to Oakhurst, settling into a home in Royal Oaks where they raised their family and where she continued to live until her death.

Cappy was a teacher and substitute teacher for both the Bass Lake and Yosemite school districts for several years. She was a home tutor with what eventually became the Mountain Home School. She was very active in the community and had many friends.

Cappy had a beautiful singing voice, was a painter, quilter, and loved to laugh. She was a wonderful grandmother to Isabel, Sophia, Lucas and Jane.

She is survived by her son Bernard McGoldrick and his wife Snezhana of Oakhurst, daughter Jennifer Hasty and her husband Pete of Los Angeles, and her sister Mona Russell of Detroit Michigan. She is preceded in death by her parents John and Mona Mullen, her sister Jane Clark, her husband Bernard McGoldrick and her companion Marlin Schuetz.

A memorial service and viewing will be held on Monday, Dec. 21, at 4 p.m. at Palm Memorial Sierra Chapel, 49269 Road 426  in Oakhurst, Calif. There will be a viewing at 3 p.m. for those who would like to come early.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 22 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Sierra Parish, 40180 Indian Springs Road in Oakhurst, Calif.
