OAKHURST – Oakhurst Sierra Sunrise Rotary has now welcomed eight new members since November 2013. Our club was chartered in 1987, making it 27 years old this year.

We have gained seven new members this year and in fact, welcomed our newest member, Karina Bulow-Brown, at our morning meeting on Tuesday, Mar. 24.

In addition to Kathy Creighton, who was welcomed to Sunrise Rotary in November 2013, we have seven new members so far this year: John Honnette, Carolyn Honnette, Ed Hart, Melissa Buller, Karen Bradley, Kamran Dideban and Karina Bulow-Brown, bringing our total membership to 29.

Funds raised at our events are used for high school scholarships, elementary school Student of the Month awards, contributions to the Boys & Girls Club, Manna House, Oakhurst Community Center and many other local and international projects. We have also contributed to digging wells to provide clean water in Uganda and Haiti.

Rotary is a group of volunteers who are leaders in our community. Rotary International’s motto is “Service Above Self.” As stated on the website, “We are neighbors, community leaders, and global citizens uniting for the common good.”
