O’NEALS — The Minarets High School girls’ JV and varsity basketball teams both had home games on Monday, Jan 27. They played the Parlier Panthers, which is the Mustang’s second game against them. Unfortunately, the first varsity game against them wasn’t so successful and they ended up losing 34-21. The JV team did win against them, though. Since it was not a league game, it did not count on their wins and losses.
During the last home game against the Orosi Cardinals, multiple varsity girl players were injured in the second half of the game. Sophomores Erica Hafkey (#32) and Melia Kamalani (#24) both suffered leg injuries and junior Taylyr Moglia (#13) broke her nose. Despite Taylyr being injured, she recovered enough to play.
The girls’ varsity basketball team is down two players for at least the next game. Sophomore
Melia Kamalani described how she felt about not being able to play, “It was really unfortunate because I was really looking forward to the season and like for colleges just to add to the stats and I won’t be able to do that so I’m pretty sad.”
