Winds & Power Outages Close Schools

O’NEALS–After a night of high winds around the area, power outages are being reported and some schools are going to be closed today.

The Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) outage center states crews are in the area and power is expected to be restored by 11:30AM.

We will update this article when more information is available.

A message went out to parents of the schools that are closed at approximately 8:15AM stating that “The power just went out in O’Neals. Spring Valley, Minarets, Cedar, and Chawanakee Academy are canceled for today. Bus route stops after 8 am will not be picked up. Any students already on a bus will start their return to their bus stop starting at 8 am. Phones are down. Email school if needed.”

The National Weather Service Hanford Office is reporting a High Wind Warning remains in effect for the Sierra Nevada and Kern County desert until 11 AM PDT Friday morning. The strongest wind gusts are expected this morning. Damaging wind gusts could blow down trees and power lines. Power outages are possible. They’re also reporting that at 4:19 AM, Thursday, March 14th, 2024, a Weather Underground instrument at Cascadel Heights measured a sustained east to southeast wind of 64 mph, with a gust of 95 mph.
