MOUNTAIN COMMUNITIES—The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) Madera-Mariposa-Merced Unit (MMU) has announced effective at 8 a.m. Wednesday, May 1 all hazard reduction burning in Mariposa and Madera Counties will require a CAL FIRE burn permit.
CAL FIRE burn permits will be available online by visiting burnpermit.fire.ca.gov.

Property owners conducting hazard reduction burning are responsible for checking the burn day status. Citations will be issued for burning outside permit parameters. Burning is limited to grasses, brush, down trees and limbs and dead, dry vegetation.
Hazard Reduction Guidelines are listed on the permit and must be followed at all times.
