MADERA COUNTY—Glacier High School Charter students earned three medals at the 45th Annual California Academic Decathlon.
Eli Lockwood earned a gold in medal in the essay competition and a bronze in music. Ava Simonich earned a bronze medal in the science competition.
More than 450 students from 53 schools participated in the California Academic Decathlon in Santa Clara on March 21-24. Students took tests in six subject areas on March 22 and delivered speeches, conducted interviews, and competed in the Super Quiz on March 23. Students took an art test and wrote an essay at their school sites on March 6.
“Earning medals at the state competition is an amazing accomplishment,” said Dr. Cecilia Massetti, Madera County Superintendent of Schools. “We are proud and congratulate the students for their outstanding performance at the California Academic Decathlon.”
California Academic Decathlon gives awards to the top scoring student on each team. Tigerlily King received that honor.
“Glacier students loved the opportunity to compete at the state level, meet new competitors, and reap the rewards of intense studying,” said Katie Kelly, Glacier High School coach. “They had a great time bonding as a team and were very happy to represent Madera County in this incredible competition.”
This was Madera County’s 43rd year participating in the Academic Decathlon. This year’s topic was “Technology and Humanity.” The Madera County Academic Decathlon is hosted by Madera County Superintendent of Schools and Madera County Schools Foundation.
