Rim Fire Now Nearly 150,000 Acres

TUOLUMNE COUNTY – As the Rim Fire continues its advance to the north and east, over 15,000 of the 149,780 acres burned are inside Yosemite National Park, and new evacuation orders have been issued. According to Park Superintendent Don Neubacher, most of the fire activity in Yosemite is near Cherry Lake, Lake Eleanor and the Hetch Hetchy area.

Rim Fire Advances East

TUOLUMNE COUNTY – The Rim Fire has now burned 133,980 acres on the Stanislaus National Forest and in the northwest corner of Yosemite National Park. Though the fire consumed another 8,000 acres since yesterday, fire officials report that good progress was made constructing and securing firelines along the southwestern, northwestern and northern portions overnight, and they now have 7% containment.

Update On The Rim Fire Aug. 24

TUOLUMNE COUNTY – Firefighters on the Rim Fire have now gained 5% containment of the 125,620 acre blaze. There have been 23 structures lost in the fire that started on Aug. 17, and some 4,500 are still threatened. The number of personnel assigned to the incident has reached 2,672, and cost to date for suppression efforts is now $7.8 million.

TUOLUMNE COUNTY – The Rim Fire, burning on the Groveland Ranger District of the Stanislaus National Forest, has more than tripled in size since Wednesday, growing to 63,366 acres. So far 9 structures have been destroyed, with some 2,500 more threatened just to the west of Ferretti Road north of Highway 120.
