The event takes place from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Branches’ new location in the Old Mill Shopping Center by Vons.

“Yosemite Home Companion: The Locals’ Guide to Life in the Yosemite Mountain Area is the book we all wish we’d had when we moved to the central Sierra Nevada,” say the authors, both city-transplants. The idea sparked when they were laughing about their discoveries as newcomers to the region.

Kellie Flanagan has years of experience writing about the mountain communities as the Managing Editor of Sierra News Online. Kellie and her family moved to Coarsegold ten years ago, never looking back.

“The first night in our five-bedroom home on four acres, we knew nothing,” she recalls. “Within two days, we had no heat in the winter. Within a week, we’d spotted wildlife we never dreamed of. Within a year, we’d figured it all out—but it would have been better if we had this book!”

For anyone who is considering the move, or dreaming of escape from an overcrowded metropolis, Yosemite Home Companion offers useful information on the gateway communities south of Yosemite National Park.

With practical wisdom and tips on everything from finding a home to maintaining your property, along with locals’ only knowledge on schools, events, jobs, emergencies, wildlife, and more, Yosemite Home Companion is the perfect primer for country living.

Jennifer Moss is the author of The One-in-a-Million Baby Names book as well as a popular series of mystery novels. She moved to the foothills five years ago from the San Fernando Valley of Southern California.

“People keep asking me if I’m okay and if I still like living here,” says Moss. “After five years, I can say it’s the best move I’ve ever made. The community is incredibly supportive, the vistas are breathtaking, and I’ve never had so many true friends.”

The Yosemite mountain area boasts some of the most affordable properties in California and, with home values on the rise, an influx of residents is expected to continue. Yosemite Home Companion covers essential details, from water and wells to mountain lions and mountain festivals.

Full of fun facts and figures compiled in a conversational style, including a glossary of terms to get newbies off on the right foot, the 125-page book is an ideal resource for anyone who wants to live in the mountains or even plans to pass through.

The authors look forward to the signing at Branches on Oct. 15. It’s Kellie’s birthday and there may be cake.
