OAKHURST – It’s going to be difficult to contain the excitement on Saturday, Dec. 5, as kids and their grown-ups are invited to attend Breakfast with Santa at the Community Center, followed by Secret Santa Shopping at the Children’s Museum of the Sierra, and wrapping up the day with the Oakhurst Community Christmas Tree Lighting and ensuing festivities.
Kiwanis-sponsored Breakfast with Santa is happening at the Oakhurst Community Center from 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Craft tables and other fun stuff for kids will be available alongside the delicious pancake breakfast, as well as a visit and pictures with Santa. Adults are $7, children 5-12 are $3, and children under 5 are free. For information please call the Children’s Museum at (559) 658-5656.
Also on Saturday, Dec. 5, the Children’s Museum of the Sierra will be having children’s Secret Santa Shopping from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., as the Birthday Room at the Children’s Museum will be transformed into a Christmas shopping room where children can “buy” and wrap gifts (with a little help) with Museum dollars.
Children’s Secret Shopping is free with admission or Museum Membership. For information please call the Children’s Museum at (559) 658-5656.
Maybe there’s time for a nap before families return to town at 5 p.m. for the spectacular lighting of the Oakhurst Community Christmas Tree in front of the Talking Bear at the corner of Highway 41 and Road 426.
Those who attend this free community event will be treated to Christmas carols with the YHS Chamber Singers and Chamber Maids, and the chance for pine cone decorating.
Food and drink will be available, including hot cocoa, hot cider, coffee, cookies, hot dogs, and kettle corn. There’s a petting zoo, pony rides and a bounce house to keep kids happy all night, especially considering Santa and Mrs. Claus will be back for a visit, and free photos by Virginia Lazar Photography.
Sponsors for the Oakhurst Christmas Tree Lighting are Century 21 Ditton and Sierra Tel, along with McGoldrick & McGoldrick Attorneys at Law, Dr. Rodney Peter and Jennifer Peter, Crab Cakes, Gold Country Water, Starbucks, WJ Bradley, Oakhurst Feed, Golden 1 Credit Union, the Boys & Girls Club of Oakhurst, CCADT and Cal Fire.
