Vegetation Fire Near Millerton Lake

FRIANT — Just before 10 a.m. today firefighters were called to the scene of a vegetation fire burning on the Bass Lake Ranger District in the vicinity of Road 206 near Millerton Lake.

The first engine on scene reported the fire at approximately 5 acres with the potential for 100 acres.

Crews from Cal Fire and Madera County responded to the fire on the ground, dubbed the Tesoro incident, along with resources above including Air Attack, a helicopter and a tanker.

The fire was reported to have grown to 15 – 20 acres with a slow rate of spread, burning into drainage.

By 10:20 a.m. air resources were being released and at 10:32 a.m. the fire was contained at 20 acres.

Crews anticipate approximately two additional hours for mop-up.

The fire is under investigation.
