OAKHURST – A brazen burglary at the Sears Home Store in Oakhurst last week has ended with two arrests and the recovery of two stolen vehicles.
Keith Lundy Stump, 22, of Oakhurst, who is on active probation out of Fresno County, and Cherise Agueros, 21, of Ahwahnee, were arrested last week in Ahwahnee, after a CHP officer saw the pair ditch a Honda on Road 600 near Highway 49.
It was the same Honda allegedly used in the Sears burglary, and had been reported stolen out of Fresno, according to the Madera County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities caught up with the pair at a home on Dillon Drive, where they recovered yet another vehicle – a 1992 GMC flatbed truck – reported stolen just that morning in Oakhurst.
Inside the truck, deputies recovered most, but not all, of the tools stolen from Sears last week. The only item reportedly recovered from the stolen Honda was a debit card that belongs to Agueros.
Stump, who is accused of stealing more than $500 worth of tools from Sears, remains jailed on suspicion of receiving known stolen property. His bail is set at $10,000.
Agueros, who was booked on suspicion of vehicle theft and receiving known stolen property, sits behind bars with bail set at $25,000.
The case remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the Sears burglary is asked to call the Madera County Sheriff’s Office at 559-675-7770 or CRIME STOPPERS at 498-STOP.
