Traffic Delays After Armored Truck Overturns On Highway 41

OAKHURST — A trip down Highway 41 ended with two people in the hospital today, and traffic north of Oakhurst remains backed up while the vehicle is being recovered.

Just after 11 a.m. this morning, a Loomis armored truck was southbound on Highway 41 about a mile north of Cedar Valley, according to CHP at the scene, when it apparently drifted off the right shoulder of the road. The driver then steered the truck back to the left causing it to overturn and roll down the embankment on the east side of the road.

Both driver and passenger were able to extricate themselves from the vehicle. One was transported by ground ambulance to a valley hospital, and the other was taken to the landing zone at Batterson Station and airlifted. Both were described as having moderate injuries.

The armored truck is on its side about 50-feet off the roadway. Madera County Sheriff’s deputies responded immediately to secure the truck.

One lane traffic control was put in place for about an hour. Both lanes are now open, however, when the tow truck arrives the lanes will be shut down in both directions as the truck is pulled back up onto the roadway.

Both occupants of the truck were described as a bit disoriented and could not give details of how the accident occurred. The cause remains under investigation.
