Explosion In Oakhurst

OAKHURST – The Madera County Sheriff’s Office confirms that on Monday night, Feb. 2, deputies were dispatched to the Purple Cow Mall in Oakhurst regarding reports of an explosion that had injured an adult male.

CHP, Cal Fire and Sierra Ambulance also responded to the incident, which was reported at approximately 11 p.m.

Deputies discovered the man with serious injuries to one of his hands and found evidence that a small propane tank had exploded. The man was transported to a hospital in Fresno for treatment of his injuries.

The injured man told deputies that he had been using a five gallon propane tank for fuel to melt some metal when the explosion occurred.

There was no evidence of foul play and the incident was handled as an accidental injury.
