Single Vehicle Crash Blocks Southbound 41

OAKHURST – A single vehicle accident blocked the southbound lane of Highway 41 for nearly an hour this evening just south of Oakhurst.

At 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Apr. 21, a 22-year-old female out of Fresno was southbound over Deadwood when she lost control of her 2003 Toyota Corolla.

She then apparently hit a deep culvert on the right side of the roadway and the car overturned, coming to rest on its hood, partially blocking the southbound lane about one-half mile from Victoria Lane.

Good Samaritan Ron Mendez, of Coarsegold, stopped to render aid and assisted the young woman in crawling out of the overturned car.

Sierra Ambulance personnel check out the driver, but after being evaluated and treated at the scene, she declined transport with only minor injuries.

Madera County Engine 12 responded, along with CHP and the Sheriff’s Office. Single-lane traffic control was put in place with only short delays.

No alcohol was involved, according to CHP at the scene, and the driver claimed that she had suffered tire failure. No other vehicles were involved.

The accident remains under investigation.
