Shoes For Kids At Hillside Baptist

NORTH FORK — As kids and their families prepare for a new school year, Hillside Baptist Church says their annual tradition of free shoes, socks, haircuts and lunch continues for local children.

On Saturday, Aug. 4 from 9 a.m. to noon, local children will be provided with new shoes and new socks at no charge. By collecting donations, the church purchases the new items from retail stores and local kids from preschool to grade 12 are the ones who benefit. On the same day, free haircuts will be available, thanks to local stylists Anna Upton and Pam Jones of Dorothy’s Hair To Please in downtown North Fork. Adults in need of a haircut may also receive the service, at a modest charge.

Church secretary Pam Simmons says the free lunch for kids will include a hot dog, baked beans, chips, and water.

Pat says this event previously has taken place in the fall, but organizers decided to plan for an earlier time this year so children could set forth on their best foot from the first day of school.

The shoe gifting and lunch takes place in the community area in the back of the church. Meanwhile, in the sanctuary, voluteers will offer a vast array of gently used clothing and shoes to families in the community, at no cost. It’s a big yard sale of fresh clothes for free.
