Sheriff Seeks Public’s Help In Locating Stabbing Suspect

MARIPOSA COUNTY — The Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office is actively searching for Clifton “Poncho” Barnhard, 61, of Mariposa.

Barnhard is wanted in connection with a stabbing that occurred at the Mariposa County Fairgrounds on the afternoon of July 7, 2017.

Mariposa County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call of a man stabbing people at the fairgrounds at approximately 5:15 p.m. The victim was located in the grass area near the gold bowl.

Prior to Deputies arriving on scene the suspect fled the area in a small grey sedan.

This incident is not related to the Yosemite Music Festival currently being held at the Mariposa County Fairgrounds.

Both the suspect and the victim are local to Mariposa County.

The victim has been flown to an area hospital and his condition is not known at this time.

Clifton “Poncho” Barnhard was arrest at 12:17 a.m. on the morning of 7/8/2017 outside his home near the Fairgrounds.

He was booked into the Mariposa County Adult Detention Facility on charges of:

664/187(a) PC -Felony Attempted Murder

245(a)(1) PC- Felony Assult with a Deadly Weapon.
