Search On For Missing North Fork Hiker

SIERRA NATIONAL FOREST – A search is underway at this time for a 76-year old North Fork man, Jack Goldman, who the Sheriff’s Office says is also known to family and friends as Nick Goldman. Mr. Goldman failed to return on Tuesday, Sept. 9, from a cross-country hike to Chiquito Lake in the Sierra National Forest.

According to the Madera County Sheriff’s Office, the California Highway Patrol is providing air support in the search. Authorities are said to have located Goldman’s vehicle, parked near the Chiquito Lake Trailhead. Madera County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team is now being assisted by trailing canines.

Goldman planned to hike cross-country to Chiquito Lake, where the elevation is approximately 8,000 feet, and return home last night. He was last seen wearing khaki colored pants, a fishing hat, and carrying a brownish tan backpack.
