O’NEALS – Madera County Sheriff’s detectives are investigating a theft that occurred at Spring Valley School in O’Neals last Wednesday, Jan. 14.
Chawanakee School District posted on their Facebook page last Thursday, a photo of a dark colored car, asking for information about the driver, stating that she “may have information leading to the theft of three campus Chromebooks and a cellular phone.”
The woman was reportedly visiting the campus where she stole a cell phone while being assisted in the office, and then took several laptops from an empty classroom as she was leaving.
The Sheriff’s Office says they were advised of the theft on Jan. 15, after information related to the incident had been publicly posted by other sources.
Though the investigation has not yet identified the female suspect, a photo of an African American male has been making the rounds on social media, and the Sheriff’s Office says that person is not considered a suspect at this time. It is believed that this image was captured by the laptop camera of someone attempting to use one of the computers after it was taken from the campus.
No further details are available, as this is an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information is urged to call the Madera County Sheriff’s Office at 559-675-7770.
