Rivergold Elementary Hires New Principal

Allen Riedel has been hired as Principal for Rivergold Elementary School, Pending Board approval on September 12, 2022.

COARSEGOLD – Yosemite Unified School District announced at a Press Conference and Staff Meeting that Allen Riedel has been hired as Principal for Rivergold Elementary School, pending Board approval on September 12, 2022.

Allen is a lifelong educator from the central coast of California. He went to high school in Santa Maria, California, and graduated with a BA in English from the University of California, Santa Barbara. He earned his MA in education administration from Chapman University in Orange.

Mr. Riedel has taught English, history, theater, and reading to 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th graders in southern California. He spent ten years in junior high/elementary and ten in high school before heading off to China to serve as Headmaster of an International Boarding School in Qingdao. He served as Dean of Students at a private boarding school in the mountains of Southern California before returning to the public school system at Yosemite High School as Assistant Principal for the 2021-2022 school year where he received the accolade of Administrator of the Year.

Mr. Riedel has authored ten books on hiking in Southern California, and can often be found on the trails of the central Sierra Nevada with his wife, Monique, and their dogs, Luke and Leia. Mr. Riedel has been a youth and varsity girls’ soccer coach, mentor to new teachers, a volunteer referee, and administrator in youth soccer leagues, volunteer mountain search and rescue, and volunteer fire lookout host in the San Jacinto Mountains. Mr. Riedel has three adult children: Michael, and twins Sierra, and Makaila.

He is excited to join the Rivergold Hawks as principal for the 2022-2023 school year!
