OAKHURST – The California Carvers Guild, along with the Oakhurst Area Chamber of Commerce and Visit Yosemite/Madera County, are proud to bring you the 9th Annual Woodcarver’s Rendezvous at the Oakhurst Community Center during the week of Apr. 17-23. Woodcarvers travel from far and wide to attend this unique event located just outside Yosemite’s southern entrance along Highway 41.
“This special week of carving is guaranteed to be fun for the whole family and we would like to extend a special invitation to you to come and join us,” say organizers.
There will be carving sessions, demonstrations, and seminars for all level of carvers: beginning, intermediate and advanced. There will also be crafts and programs for your tag-a-long. The event simultaneously offers many arts and craft programs such as special leather classes and pine needle basket weaving for individuals wanting to partake in the festivities. Or perhaps those accompanying you to this event would enjoy a week of rest and shopping in the beautiful central Sierra. Either way it will be a great week for everyone.
Currently, there are several different carving sessions lined up. One registration fee will allow you to attend as many sessions as you like or you may choose to spend the whole week in just one session. The choice is yours.
Registration fee for the Oakhurst Wood Carving Rendezvous is $115 for a single person, $170 per couple (same household), for the entire week. You will need to bring your own carving knives, tools and equipment. The price also includes coffee each morning, Kiwanis breakfast, a couple of dinners and a potluck on Friday night. Everyone had a great time last year, and organizers are working hard to make this event even better.
There will be a Woodcarving Craft Fair on the final day — from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Apr. 23. Visitors will be treated to displays of carvers in action, live demonstrations and a vast selection of finished projects, some of which will be available for purchase. The general public is welcome to stop in throughout the week, free of charge, to observe.
