Prescribed Fire in the Oakhurst Area

OAKHURST– The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE), will be conducting a prescribed fire, fuel reduction project in the Oakhurst area February 15-19 if weather is conducive for burning. The project will be on the property of the Episcopal Conference Center Oakhurst. This project will reduce hazardous fuels around the Conference Center and provide a fuel break between the communities of Sky Ranch and Cedar Valley, from Hwy 41 to Lewis Creek.

The project consists of approximately 20 acres. Smoke produced, from this project, will be seen from Hwy 41 and will impact the communities of Cedar Valley and Sky Ranch Rd. There will be smoldering heavier fuels throughout the night with crews monitoring the fire. This is a control burn, so please do not report if you are in the project area.

According to CAL FIRE’s vegetation management program “The use of prescribed fire mimics natural processes, restores fire to its historic role in wildland ecosystems, and provides significant fire hazard reduction benefits that enhance public and firefighter safety.”
