CHP Conducting ‘Maximum Enforcement’ Speeding Crackdown

OAKHURST — The Oakhurst Area California Highway Patrol announced late this week that the agency is currently conducting a “maximum enforcement operation.” The initiative, agency officials explained, is a coordinated effort to reduce the amount of high speed drivers on Highway 41.

“Our traffic enforcement is not meant to be a secret,” stated a CHP press release issued this week announcing the operation. “Speeding kills, and we would like you to help us spread the word.”

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, for more than two decades, speeding has been involved in approximately one-third of all motor vehicle fatalities.

“Speeding not only endangers the life of the driver, but all of those around them as well,” CHP officials cautioned in a Facebook post. “We will use both enforcement and education to save lives. Hopefully this post will help us reduce speed, but sometimes a citation may be needed instead. Spread the word and help us save a life.”
