Minarets Vs. Yosemite Boys Soccer

By Michael Vaughan —

OAKHURST — Minarets boys soccer earned a hard fought 1-0 win at Yosemite on Thursday, Dec. 22.

The physical game was knotted 0-0 at halftime with neither team able to capitalize in the final one-third of the field. In the second half, Minarets looked much more threatening.

Junior captain Jacob Cullen, also the Mustangs’ Varsity quarterback, broke the deadlock, latching onto a deflected shot by senior captain Jesse Martin. Cullen also had a beautiful shot clang against the crossbar minutes later.

Senior Josh Weir recorded the shutout in goal, his fourth of the season. This puts the Mustangs at 4-7 for the season.

Jesse Martin, a converted defender, leads the team in goals for the year with 13. Senior Drew Robertson has added 6 goals and leads the team in assists with 9. Robertson finished the game in defense to help preserve the win.
