MARIPOSA — A Mariposa man is behind bars on a million dollar bond after allegedly threatening his ex-wife with a knife and assaulting a police officer.
On Mar. 28, at 9:09 p.m., the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Dispatch Center received a 911 call from a residence in the 5000 block of Italian Creek Road in Mariposa. The caller stated something indecipherable about her ex-husband then the line was disconnected.
The 911 dispatcher attempted several times to re-contact but the line only would ring through to voicemail.
While deputies were responding to check on the caller, another 911 call came in. This time the caller stated she and her two children had fled the scene and were now at a neighbor’s house. She said her ex-husband had broken into the home, broken windows and held a knife to her throat threatening to kill her if she contacted anyone, all while her children were present in the same room.
Arriving deputies located Joshua Alexander outside of the neighbor’s house yelling and holding a knife. Alexander began making statements to the deputies that he wanted to die and that they would have to shoot him to get him to stop.
After multiple commands to drop the knife, Alexander complied and was taken into custody. While transporting him to the patrol car, Alexander reportedly made several verbal threats towards deputies, telling them that he was associated with a Mexican Cartel and would murder them.
Alexander had multiple self-inflicted wounds, according to the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office, and was transported to an area hospital.
