Madera County Reports 82 More Cases; Total Rises to 1136

MADERA — Madera County Department of Public Health (MCDPH) officials reported 82 more cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, raising the total number of cases countywide to 1136. For the second day in a row, county health officials also reported another COVID-related death, raising the county’s death toll to 11 since the pandemic began in March.

As of 4 p.m. Thursday, MCDPH is reporting 548 active cases — and 577 recoveries.

A recently added note on MCDPH’s website states that due to “state standardization under the new Cal CONNECT system,” Madera County’s daily reports now reflect the prior day’s statistics.

According to MCDPH’s latest update, fourteen people with coronavirus are currently hospitalized.

A total of 13,631 county residents have now been tested for COVID-19 and according to MCDPH’s data dashboard, there have been a total of 57 confirmed cases in Reporting Area D, which includes the foothill and mountain communities of eastern Madera County. That number increased by two over the past 24 hours.

No new cases was reported Thursday in Mariposa County, which has seen a total of 35 cases, 29 recoveries and one death from COVID-19.

Across California, there have been 356,853 confirmed COVID-19 cases reported, with the total number of deaths statewide now at 7,404. 

Nationally, there have now been 3.53 million confirmed cases of COVID-19, with the U.S. death toll from the virus nearing 139,000.
