Local Author Shares Stories At Oakhurst Library

Submitted by Monica McClanahan

OAKHURST – The Oakhurst Library is very pleased to host an event for local author, Virginia Walton Pilegard.

Virginia was raised on a cattle ranch in the foothills of central California. She earned the Indian nickname “Two Spoons” from Mono artist Richard Lavell. The artist spotted Virginia with a spoon in each hand sharing decadent desserts with family and friends. Lavell dubbed her “Waha Wehe” which in the Mono language means ‘two metals.’

Virginia published a successful series of mathematical adventure picture books (The Warlord’s Series). And, her inspirational romances are published by Goat Mountain Books in Wishon under the pen name of Rebecca Abby. Her newest book, Loving Sunny is from her series “French Creek Mysteries.”

Loving SunnyAn unlikely couple is embroiled in the investigation of the death of a neighboring rancher. A pastor’s daughter, Sunny English, has loved Caleb Wilder, a Mono-Chuckchansi bronc rider, since their childhood in the Sierra foothills. But, Caleb knows he’s not the man for her. He doesn’t believe in her daddy’s Christianity and he can’t wait to get out of French Creek. Caleb makes his first mistake by offering Sunny a friendly kiss. His own reaction to the kiss surprises both him and her.

He makes his second mistake when he refuses to ignore the signs that a neighboring rancher has been murdered by his own son. Caleb doubts he can hang around long enough to catch a killer without messing up Sunny’s life, or his own.

Many popular stories of mystery and romance are set in the Navaho, Lakota and Arapaho countries. Virginia places her novel in the homeland of California’s Mono & Chuckchansi.

The event will be held in the library’s new Community Room at 49044 Civic Circle Drive on Nov. 9 at 10 a.m.

If you have any questions about this special event, please call the library at 559-683-4838.
