MOUNTAIN AREA — Organizers behind a local nonprofit who specialize in lifting women up one woman at a time are now looking for the public’s help to identify their next recipient. Thanks to the humility of a nominated person who declined the group’s largess, Helping One Woman (HOW) needs a woman to help.
“Our recipient for our January dinner lost her home in the Mission Fire and was so blessed by our community that she has declined to be our honoree next month,” says HOW volunteer Sue Higgins. “She feels that there is someone else in our area that has a greater need than she does.”
For this month only, HOW is accepting nominations for the January 17, 2018 dinner. The sponsor can go to Tokens Gift and Thrift, located at 40410 Hwy 41, Oakhurst to complete a form. Call (559) 658-5428 and speak with Nancy Fikkert if you have any questions.
As always, the recipient must have had a life-changing event in the last 12 months, such as an irreplaceable or catastrophic loss which cannot be recovered. The sponsor will need to agree to the responsibilities designated by HOW.
Please submit suggestions in writing on or before Dec. 20, 2017 and HOW organizers will draw from the nominations and announce the winner on December 21, 2017.
HOW meets monthly for an uplifting evening in honor of one deserving woman who receives the community’s support when they need it the most. Those participating in the HOW benefit will offer $10 or more as a suggested donation for the recipient and pay for their own dinner. Proceeds from the event go directly to the recipient at the end of the evening.
HOW says that one woman with $10 can buy another woman lunch. Ten women giving $10 can buy another woman’s groceries. One hundred women giving $10 can make a real difference in another woman’s life.
“Remember that by helping one woman, we help one family and one community.”
