OAKHURST – Hungry for breakfast? Come out tomorrow Saturday, May 10, from 7 a.m. to noon for a Pancake Breakfast at the Oakhurst Community Center.
The event is sponsored by Sierra Oakhurst Kiwanis, with all proceeds going to Yosemite High School’s Sober Grad.
The cost of breakfast for adults is $6; the meal for kids under 12 are $3, and children under 5 get in for free. Be on the lookout for a big prize drawing at the Kiwanis breakfast to support Sober Grad, with raffle tickets going for $5 each.
Prizes include a one-day boat rental from Miller’s Landing, a one-night stay for two at Tenaya Lodge including breakfast, two rounds of golf at Sierra Meadows, a two-night stay at the Red Caboose, and two tickets for Yosemite Tours.
Sober Grad is a long-standing Yosemite High tradition, one that was threatened by the closing of the town’s only bowling alley in 2013, and further compromised when the school’s administration announced early this year that it would no longer be sponsoring the graduation night extravaganza. That annoucement caused parents to band together in the newly-formed YHS Parent Teacher Club, whose purpose is to organize and ultimately pull together a fantastic sober grad event.
The YHS PTA is grateful to the community for the kind and generous donations already received, and reminds everyone that donations are still being actively sought. While the PTA is approaching their goal of raising $10,000 to support Sober Grad, they still need your donations to reach that mark, and fortunately, there is still time to make that donation!
Safe and Sober Grad Night provides a supervised, safe and sober party for graduated seniors on the night of June 6 and through the morning of the next day. This year’s Sober Grad takes place at Camp Oakhurst, in the Mudge Ranch area of Coarsegold, up Road 426. All donations are 100% tax deductible through the nonprofit YHS PTA.
