MARIPOSA — Recently returned from an engagement in the great continent of Africa described by him as “rich in stories, beautiful and heartbreaking,” is Joel ben Izzy, the man with the miracle voice. Yes, this master storyteller lost his voice and had it restored to him by modern science, as he describes in his first book entitled The Beggar King and the Secret of Happiness. We welcome Joel back to the Mariposa County Arts Council’s 29th Annual Storytelling Festival held in historic Mariposa, California. The event will be held on Mar. 11 to 13, and we eagerly await his latest tale of life beyond the seas, with his inimitable humor laced with poignancy.
A graduate of Stanford University where he majored in creative writing and storytelling, Joel set out to teach and tell stories all over the continents of Europe and Asia, recording award winning tales of faraway places with style and panache. Come to Mariposa to listen to his latest tales, mark the dates on your calendar now for March 11 – 13.
