Investigation Continues Into Officer Involved Shooting

MADERA COUNTY — The investigation continues into an officer involved shooting in the Valley this morning.

On Feb. 24, at approximately 7:26 a.m., California Highway Patrol officers initiated a vehicle stop for speeding on Highway 152.

The vehicle failed to yield, increased its speed, and continued traveling southbound on Highway 99, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The vehicle exited the highway at Avenue 9. When the vehicle came to a stop, a male subject exited the vehicle with a knife in his hand.

CHP officers deployed a Taser to restrain the subject, says the Sheriff’s Office, but it had no effect. The subject then charged officers with the knife, resulting in officers discharging their firearms, striking the subject several times.

The suspect is being treated at a hospital in Fresno. There were no injuries to any of the officers.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the Madera County Sheriff’s Office at (559) 675-7770 or Valley Crime Stoppers at 559-498-STOP (7867).
