HOW Dinner Honors Peggy Owens

HOW May 2016 Peggy Larry David OwensAHWAHNEE — The nonprofit organization Helping One Woman (HOW) invites the community to a dinner in support of area resident Peggy Owens, at the Hitching Post on Wednesday, May 18 at 6 p.m.

Peggy and husband Larry “lived in the Oakhurst area from 1988 – 1990 and loved ‘doing life’ here and homeschooling their five children, Jen, Daniel, Steven, Andrew and David. The family then moved to Simi Valley until 2008 when then returned to the mountain area and settled back into community and church life while completing their final years of homeschooling David,” reads the flyer posted by HOW.

“On April 16, Larry and Peggy suddenly and unexpectedly lost their son, David, who was 20 years old. A GoFundMe account was set up and has covered many expenses, but there are additional costs for this time in their lives including the Celebration of Life that will be held at the Oakhurst EV Free Church on Saturday, May 21, and costs associated with the family coming from across California and as far away as Texas.”

Peggy has battled Lyme disease for 30 years, according to HOW, and the dietary and therapeutic requirements to maintain her health are quite costly.

“The Owens family is reaching out to the community for financial and emotional support. Please join us on May 18 for Peggy’s benefit dinner.”

RSVP to (559) 658-5428. Monetary donations or gifts for the prize drawing may be dropped off at Tokens Gift & Thrift shop in Oakhurst.

Those participating in the HOW benefit dinner place $10 or more toward a contribution for Peggy, and pay for their own dinners. Proceeds from the evening go directly to the month’s recipient — Peggy for May — at the end of the evening.

How members believe that “one woman giving $10 can buy another woman’s lunch. Ten women giving $10 can buy another woman’s groceries. One hundred women giving $10 can change another woman’s life. This is how HOW works.”
