Hit & Run Driver Arrested For DUI

O’NEALS – A driver who was involved in a hit and run near the Chukchansi Casino was apprehended just south of Road 200 on Monday, July 29.

The incident which involved CHP from both the Oakhurst and Madera units, began when a driver apparently sideswiped a Toyota Corolla near the intersection of Highway 41 and Lucky Lane.

Casey Brown, 25, of Fresno, was involved in a minor collision, causing damaged to another car just south of Coarsegold. Due to his level of intoxication, he didn’t seem to realize that he had been involved in an accident, according to CHP.

Brown continued south on Highway 41, but was observed by an off-duty officer weaving and crossing over the solid yellow line. The officer called in the suspected impaired driver, and a CHP patrol car positioned himself to overtake the suspect.

Before officers could apprehend Brown and get him off the road, he managed to crash into a PT Cruiser just south of Road 200. As CHP arrived on scene and put the cuffs on Brown, the Toyota Corolla from the first incident passed by the arrest-in-progress, and stopped to alert the officers of the previous collision, says the CHP.

Both the driver and passenger of the PT Cruiser were examined by paramedics from Sierra Ambulance at the Park and Ride at Highway 41 and Road 200, and both were transported to Clovis Community hospital for treatment.

Brown was placed under arrest for Driving Under the Influence.
