Thanks to your support, the American Cancer Society is leading the way in the fight to end cancer, from discovering lifesaving cancer breakthroughs to helping people with cancer receive the support and resources they need to get well and stay well.
Every year, the Society provides more than 16,500 cancer patients rides from their homes to treatment facilities. That’s nearly 200,000 round-trips through its free Road To Recovery® program.
Trained navigators helped nearly 89,000 patients understand their cancer diagnosis, and assisted nearly 1 million people who called its toll-free 800-227-2345 help line, which is staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and accommodates several languages.
Other free programs and services offered to cancer patients include Reach To Recovery® breast cancer support, I Can Cope® interactive online classes, Look Good Feel Better® help with appearance-related effects of cancer treatment, and the online community Cancer Survivors Network℠.
Since its research program began in 1946, the Society has awarded more than $3.9 billion in research grants, making it the leading nonprofit contributor to cancer research in the country. Because of its extensive research program that looks for new treatment options and ways to prevent every type of cancer, the US death rate from cancer is down 20% since 1990.
