Head-On Crash Stalls Traffic On Highway 41 North Of Oakhurst

OAKHURST – A head-on collision north of Oakhurst blocked traffic for a short time today near the Road 222 turnoff.

Just before 4 p.m., a 24-year-old Oakhurst man was northbound in a Pontiac Grand Am at a stated speed of 50 mph, when he crossed over the center line into oncoming traffic, according to CHP at the scene.

A 39-year-old woman from Oakhurst was southbound in a Dodge Durango just rounding the right-hand curve above Matthews Fine Furniture.

When she saw the Pontiac headed toward her, she hit the brakes and veered to the right to avoid the collision, but was struck head-on. She also slammed into a rock on the west side of the road.

The wreck blocked both lanes for about 15 minutes, and one-lane traffic control was then put in place.

The drivers both suffered some bumps and bruises and were checked out by Sierra Ambulance personnel, but neither was transported for medical treatment.

There were no passengers in either vehicle.

The accident remains under investigation.
