Harry Baker Passes Away

FRESNO – ABC30 is reporting that former Madera County Supervisor Harry Baker died early Friday morning, according to his attorney.

Baker was the president of Sierra Telephone in Oakhurst, and made headlines after he was accused of molesting a 13-year-old girl at a Fresno hotel in 2007. The case never went to trial due to Baker’s deteriorating health, and he has always maintained his innocence.

Baker was well-known for his many generous contributions in the community, and was a life-long resident of the Oakhurst area.

He was very active in civic organizations, and contributed both time and money to education and scholarships. Several local venues bear his name, including the Yosemite High School Swim Complex.

Sierra Telephone has grown over the years into one of the largest employers in the area, always supporting community projects and events.

Baker was also instrumental in the creation of the Oakhurst Community Park and Sierra Ambulance.

Harry Baker was 87 years old.

Harry was a giant in my community. His generosity was unmatched. I remember only the good this man left in his trail. I will miss my friend. May God bless you.

  2. I would say RIP but a child molester deserves no peace! May he always be haunted by his actions, just like his victims.
