OAKHURST – Reserve your spot now for a tour of the Railroad Fire area, and experience the unique and beautiful wildflowers that blanket the landscape after a wildfire.
Sierra National Forest Botanist Joanna Clines will lead a hike to see the mountain lady’s slipper orchids bloom near Nelder Grove on Saturday, June 9, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The hike will be “easy,” but there may be some steep areas with loose footing near the orchid locations.

On Saturday, July 14, the SVSBA will host another tour, this one of the Graveyard of the Giants Trail in Nelder Grove.
Local expert and author Brenda Negley, and Forest Service Recreation Specialist Cori Hayth will lead a six-mile round trip hike to observe the impacts, fire ecology and recovery of the vegetation in Nelder Grove after the Railroad Fire of 2017.
The hike will be moderate to strenuous, but with many stops along the way.
Participants will meet at Batterson Fire Station, 43060 Highway 41, at 9 a.m., and the tour will last until about 3 p.m.
Please bring a backpack to carry lunch, snacks, drinking water, sunscreen, etc., and wear sturdy shoes or boots that you don’t mind getting wet and dirty.
