OAKHURST — The Golden Chain Theatre presents the classic Broadway play, Oklahoma! with the curtain rising for the first performance on Friday, Aug. 10.
Oklahoma! is the first musical Rodgers and Hammerstein wrote, a smash hit opening on Broadway in 1943 and running for over 2,000 performances.
Set just after the turn of the 20th century, the musical takes place as a spirited rivalry between local farmers and cowboys provides the backdrop for the love story between handsome cowboy Curly, and beautiful farm girl Laurey. James Mierkey plays Curly McLain, Mary Helen Mierkey appears as Aunt Eller, and Kaley Marsh portrays Laurey Williams.
The production is rated G and directed by Jennifer Janine. Oklahoma! runs through Sept. 2, with evening shows on Fridays and Saturdays and Sunday matinees. For more information, visit www.GoldenChainTheatre.org.
