Fresno Man Convicted of Grand Theft

MADERA – A Madera Superior Court jury on Aug. 30, convicted Samie Jamil Mahmood, 49, of Fresno, of felony grand theft in a case that has taken three years to come to a conclusion.Deputy District Attorney Ranna Jahanshahi presented evidence to the jury that, in the fall of 2009, Mahmood entered the Lowes Hardware Store in Madera on numerous occasions and shoplifted merchandise worth more than $2,500. Store security personnel eventually discovered his thefts and turned the case over to the Madera Police Department.

Mahmood faces up to three years in the county jail for the felony conviction. He will be sentenced on Sept. 27.
