Fresno Flats Ragtime & Vintage Music Festival

Submitted by Charles Bednar

OAKHURST – Preparations are now underway for the 14th Annual Fresno Flats Ragtime and Vintage Music Festival to be held April 11-13 in Oakhurst.

With top notch performers, ready to raise the roof with toe tapping melodies, this is a weekend of such joyful celebration. You will not want to miss it.

The Friday and Saturday events, Apr. 11-12, will be held at the Old School House at Fresno Flats Historical Park, 49777 Road 427 (School Rd). Sunday’s finale concert will be held at Oakhurst Lutheran Church just off Road 426 at 39255 Black Rd. With two pianos housed in the School House, there will be twice the roof-raising fun.

This year’s lineup of feature pianists includes the fiery Tom Brier playing everything from the gems of the past to his own sensational compositions, duo performers Chris & Jack Bradshaw, known for their 4-hand artistry, and Jack’s fine solo performances, Larisa Migachyov, who will add grace and elegance to the mayhem provided by the others.

Adding the icing to the cake will be flute tootin’ Julia Riley, new to the festival this year, who will grace us with some pretty fancy high notes. It doesn’t get much better than this.

The festival will kick off on Friday the 11th with a dinner at 5:30 p.m., followed by a concert presented by the festival performers. Tickets are $10 for the full evening.

On Saturday there will be a concert from 2 to 4:15 p.m., again featuring the festival performers. Tickets are $5 for the afternoon.

A no-host pizza party will follow the Saturday concert. This is an open piano “after-glow” set where everyone is invited to come and play. You just never know what combinations or pieces you can expect to hear but it is always fun.

The weekend’s finale concert will be held from 1 to 3:30 p.m. at the Oakhurst Lutheran Church. This afternoon concert is always a hit. Donations accepted.
