Flash Flood Warning For Parts Of Mariposa County

MARIPOSA – The National Weather Service in Hanford has issued a Flash Flood Warning for northwestern Mariposa County and southwestern Tuolumne County until 1:30 p.m.

At 11:59 a.m., Doppler radar indicated a line of thunderstorms providing very heavy rain across the warned area. Radar estimated half- to three-quarters of an inch per hour. Flash flooding is expected to begin shortly.

Some locations that will experience flooding include Mariposa, Catheys Valley, Hetch Hetchy and Crane Flat.

Excessive rainfall over the Ferguson burn scar will result in debris flow moving through the Merced river drainage. The debris flow can consist of rock, mud, vegetation and other loose materials.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route.
