Firefighters Fill The Boot For Muscular Dystrophy

MADERA COUNTY — Oakhurst and Coarsegold Firefighters Cal Fire Local 2881 will hold a “Fill-the-Boot” to raise funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) Central California Chapter.

Firefighters will Fill the Boot Saturday, May 24, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Highway 41 & 49 intersection in Oakhurst, and and Highway 41 & Road 415 intersection in Coarsegold. Please support your local firefighters, who will be asking passing motorists to donate dollars and change to “Fill the Boot” as they travel through the intersections.

With help from the Oakhurst, Coarsegold, Bass Lake and Ahwahnee firefighters, MDA can provide the following services to local families free of charge: monthly support groups, medical clinics, loan and repair of medical equipment, and a 100% wheelchair accessible youth summer camp. MDA is the world leader in muscle disease research.

MDA Summer Camp is specially designed for children with physical disabilities due to muscle diseases. The local MDA Summer Camp is held this year from June 16 – 21, at Camp Tuolumne Trails in Groveland, for children throughout Central California. The facility and all activities are 100% wheelchair accessible – even the pool. Activities include swimming, fishing, arts and crafts, wheelchair races and much more.

“Throughout 2014, MDA and the International Association of FireFighters (IAFF) are celebrating 60 years of proud partnership, joined together in the fight against life-threatening muscle disease,” says MDA Executive Director Carrie Danny.

“Firefighters do more for MDA and the families we serve than any other group. In Central California, they spend countless hours every year volunteering at Fill the Boot drives and MDA events such as Summer Camp. We’re grateful for the support of these inspiring, selfless individuals who have made a profound impact on our families’ health, wellbeing and quality of life.”

MDA and the IAFF joined forces in 1954, forming a partnership committed to saving lives. As the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s largest nation-wide sponsor, the IAFF fuels MDA’s mission to find cures and improve quality of life for those living with muscle disease.

Please help Firefighters in Oakhurst and Coarsegold fill their boots with donations to send our local kids to MDA Summer Camp!
