Coarsegold Man Dies in 3-Vehicle Accident on Hwy 41

O’NEALS — A Coarsegold man died Sunday in a fatal traffic accident at Koko Drive near the 22 Mile House Valero gas station. The incident, which occurred shortly before noon, temporarily closed Highway 41 Sunday afternoon as emergency personnel responded to the scene.

The accident involved three vehicles — a gray Toyota pickup, blue Ford Fusion and and a red Chevy Malibu.

According to CHP, the Toyota and Ford were driving southbound in heavy rain when the Malibu, traveling northbound, appeared to lose control and drifted into oncoming traffic.

The accident created lengthy delays on Highway 41 in both directions until about 1:30 p.m.

One of the vehicles involved in the incident came to rest 50 feet down a steep embankment, according to CHP — and initial reports from the scene indicated one vehicle was on fire.

A request for the coroner was issued and CHP at the scene subsequently confirmed a 74-year-old man died in the accident.

The driver was later identified as Terry Lee Lishman, of Coarsegold.

Several other people involved in the incident reportedly suffered minor injuries.
