Dangerous Driving Conditions Tonight

MADERA COUNTY – Multiple trees which have blown down in gusting winds across the mountain area are blocking roads and keeping CHP, County Roads and PG&E hopping this evening.

As of 7 p.m., there are trees down and blocking lanes all along Road 432 (North Shore at Bass Lake) between The Pines and Falls Beach. Also causing traffic problems are downed trees on Road 425B, Pierce Drive, Road 222 near Old Corral, Road 222 near The Forks, and Road 225 near Cascadel Drive.

Wind gusts upwards of 50 mph have been reported, and travel is dangerous on all mountain roads, especially those near burn areas.

Even those areas that were not affected by wildfire with season will likely have trees that are stressed and damaged due to the extended drought across California.

There are also reports that the traffic signal at Road 426 and 427 (School Road) is not functioning.

Motorists are urged to use extreme caution on the roadways tonight, or better yet, avoid traveling if at all possible.
