Cowboy Christmas Concert At Oakhurst Lutheran

OAKHURST — Once again, the Oakhurst Lutheran Church has a special Cowboy Christmas Concert planned to get everyone in the holiday spirit on Saturday, Dec. 10 at 6 p.m. There will be two performances, one at 2 p.m., and a second at 6 p.m.

Tim Johnson has put together a great group of musicians, including the Cowboy Band of Tim Johnson, Keith Johnson, Arnie Johnson, Cliff Neufeld, Rudy Helm and Eddie Guzman. They will be joined by special guests like Bobby Black and Candie Cobb.

Who you will be hearing —

Tim JohnsonTim Johnson — Tim played with the Sons of the San Joaquin — Jack, Joe, Lon and Bill Thornbury — as fiddler, from 2000-07.

During this period, they performed to a sold-out audience at Carnegie Hall, collected many awards, such as induction into the Western Music Hall of Fame in 2006 and the Western Music Associations (WMA) group of the year in 2007. Tim received the WMA instrumentalist of the year award in 2007 upon the release of his solo fiddle album, American Fiddler, in the same year.

bobby-blackBobby Black — Bobby is a world renowned master of the pedal steel and lap steel guitar that was inducted into The Steel Guitar Hall of Fame in 2004.

Over the years he has performed with Commander Cody and the Lost Planet Airmen, Asleep at the Wheel, New Riders of the Purple Sage, The Sir Douglas Quintet, Texas Tornadoes, Doug Sahm,Barbara Mandrell, Dolly Parton, David Allan Coe,Norton Buffalo, Bill Kirchen, Kitaro, David Gans, Robert Gordon, Ray Price, Webb Pierce, Merle Travis, Rusty Draper, Jim Reeves, Tom- my Duncan, Sue Thompson, Tommy Sands, Joan Blackman (Elvis movies), Eddie and Hank Cochran (Cochran Brothers), Cal Smith, Spade Cooley, Pee Wee Whitewing, Louis Tierney, Gene Vincent, Dobie Gray, The Coasters, Mel Carter, Dick and Dee Dee, Grand Ole Opry, The Wilburn Brothers Show, Linda Hargrove, Lattislaw, Stolen Roses (Songs of the Grateful Dead), David Gans and many, many more….

candie-cobbCandie Cobb – Eight Second Ride features dynamite vocalist Candie Cobb. Candie is also a fabulous line dance instructor, and is proud to have taught line dancing to Charles Barkley, Moses Malone and Michael Jordan, all in one night!

Eight Second Ride, a quartet based out of Salinas, Calif., have been local favorites on the Monterey Peninsula music scene for over two decades. They’ve built their reputation as a great country & western band that also has a wide variety of crossover rock ‘n roll in their repertoire. Eight Second Ride has opened for and performed with such superstars as Willie Nelson, George Strait, Garth Brooks, Merle Haggard, Johnny Rodriquez, Mel McDaniel, Travis Tritt, Riders in the Sky and John Denver, just to name a few.

There will be a maximum seating of 140 for each performance with pre-sold tickets for the Cowboy Christmas at a suggested $20 donation.
