Coarsegold Man Dies Monday in Traffic Accident in Oakhurst

OAKHURST — A Coarsegold man was killed Monday morning in a “head-on” traffic accident near Highway 41 and Road 420.

Alain Gerard, 74, a resident of Coarsegold, died at the scene of the accident, the Madera County Coroners’ Office confirmed.

The accident occurred shortly after 9 a.m. and involved two vehicles, a Nissan pickup and a commercial dump truck.

Gerard, the driver of the pickup traveling northbound on Highway 41, had some type of “medical” issue, according to CHP Public Information Officer Jason Bettiini.

“His pickup veered into the oncoming lane and collided head on with the dump truck traveling southbound on Highway 41,” Officer Bettini said.

Madera County Sheriff’s Office deputies provided CPR at the accident scene until CHP, CAL Fire and Sierra Ambulance units arrived.

Gerard’s wife was a passenger in the car but suffered only minor injuries.

The driver of the dump truck was not injured.
