Closing Arguments Begin In Arson Trial

MADERA – The trial of a Coarsegold couple charged with arson and conspiracy is entering its final phase in Department 2 in Madera Superior Court.

Kenneth Jackson and Alice Waterman were back in court this morning as the judge gave jury instructions in advance of closing arguments set for later today.

Jackson and Waterman together are charged with 31 counts of arson, and one count each of conspiracy, in a trial which began January 28. Jackson is additionally charged with one count of resisting arrest and one count of assault on a peace officer.

The pair were arrested on June 25, 2013, in connection with a string of suspicious fires in the Yosemite Lakes Park area and have been behind bars for ten months.

The prosecution anticipates they will finish their closing arguments on Tuesday, at which point the case will finally go to the jury.
