Choppers Donates Big Check To Valley Children’s Hospital

OAKHURST – Tim Harmon and the crew at Choppers were excited to hand over a very large check to Valley Children’s Hospital (VCH) during Customer Appreciation Day this Saturday.

Elizabeth Hermann, Development Assistant at VCH, was on hand to accept the donation of $2,420, raised by collecting donations in exchange for tickets in a drawing for a Husqvarna 550XP chainsaw.

“We couldn’t do the work we do without the support of the community,” said Hermann, who got a large show of hands when she asked how many in the crowd had ever had a child in need of VCH services.

“The demands of health care for kids has skyrocketed, and the services we are able to provide are all due to the philanthropy of people like you.”

This is the second year Choppers has raised money for Valley Children’s Hospital, and Tim says he plans to continue.

The winner of the chainsaw drawing was Josh Cornelison, a timber cutter/operator out of Ahwahnee. Though Josh was reportedly hard at work when his name was drawn, Elizabeth Hermann got on the phone to let him know he had won.

There was fun for all at today’s event, including ax throws and bear carving, plus BBQ’d burgers and hot dogs.

Kids got to experience the feeling of being hoisted up into a tree, and Cal Fire’s own Len Nielson – who took the title of Champion Logger at the 2015 Mid-Sierra Loggers Jamboree – showed off his skill at speed chopping, assisted by daughter Natasha.

In additions to big discounts throughout the store, there were more than a dozen door prizes given out, and representatives from Husqvarna, Stihl and Echo were on hand to answer questions.
